Just now, I went
through all the gallery shots and the press and your
bio more closely.
Honestly, you are inspiring! This message of taking
your hobby and turning it into your life's work really
resonates with me. I'm getting my doctorate in
psychology and do work all over the world around
themes of conflict resolution and multiculturalism.
This all started five years ago as I was working with
kids in Washington Heights as a volunteer. I ended up
leaving a techincal job in neuroscience that was
unfulfilling and making my hobby my career.
Seeing how much you have done to leverage your
considerable skills and talent is just inspiring. You
are really a role model for all of us I think.
This probably isnt. the response you were expecting
but I just wanted to tell you how taken I was with you
and your story.
I don't know where Hoboken is or how to get there so I
don't know if I'll become client, but honestly you
have given me much more than a massage already today--
you have made me feel inspired. You are awesome!!

What a treat my friend and I got when Dot and her friends showed up at
Karaoke the other night. If you ever get a chance to hear Dot singing you
will be blown away by her awesome Janis Joplin renditions. By far the best

You might not remember me but I have fond memories of you when we were at Bayside High! You were always a blast to be around, full of excitement and action-packed stories... which definitely came across ligit! I remember how much you were in love w/Mick Jagger back then. I remember you coming into the girls bathroom screaming "Sue, Sue, look!", and you had a backstage pass on your pants from a show the night before.
Do you remember seeing Pat Newhall and me at a Dead show? You had to go because your friends were about to get married during intermission. We saw the bride in her awesome white dress and the groom all in tye die afterwards and congratulated them!
I am sooo happy for you! You have certainly made a dream reality w/your profession. Masseuses are very special people - you make the rest of the people in the world feel great! (if they're smart enough to hire you guys!)
If you're ever back in VA, if I can afford ya, I'd hire you in a heartbeat! I hear the class of 85 is going on a cruise for our 20th next year - maybe you could make it!

I think all the jealous people are just that, I get looked and leered at all the time, and called one of those kind of massage people. I just look and smile, My massage isnt the traditional massage either, who is to say what kind of massage anyone can give. The point is, I am self employeed, I answer to no one, except my wonderful clients, and if they had a problem then I wouldnt have so many repeats. We are in America, FREEDOM to do whatever we want to. No matter if it curls your upper lip. Mind your own business, and no one needs to know how many hours you have and education, who cares, your helping people and making them feel loved and giving them the attention they need, that maybe their fat, homley wives arent giving them. Sorry men therapists you cant get work unless your massage the same sex clients who might want a little more of your touching......LOL Lighten up. Its not worth the bulging "VEIN" in your head.

What most disturbed me about the recent AP article on your work is your lack of professionalism with repsect to client confidentiality. It is not acceptable to make public what clients tell us during sessions, much less make comments about their bodies. Your celebrity cients in particular, who are so much in the public eye and have so little privacy, have even greater need to be protected in this regard. You have done them, and our profession, a disservice.

I would absolutely LOVE to do what you do... that would be my dream! In reading how you got into it you just made it sound so easy... what is your secret???? I wouldn't mind working with you as well when you're out in the San Francisco area... that would be totally awesome... just getting to sit with you and rap about your techniques at gaining clientelle... You've been doing this for years, and with all of the complaining about your presentation I think we could learn A LOT from you... your experience... I do admit there are some things that I personally would not do, yeah i don't think putting someone's skin in your mouth is a good idea (not to mention not very sanitary) but your techniques are your own and no one, not me, not anyone can tell you what you should be doing... A friend told me about your site as I am a Massage Therapist in Perth, Western Australia. I notice in this guestbook a few angry Massage Therapists who seem to be claiming that you are too sexual/sensual and are thus giving all Massage Therapists a bad name.
On a smaller scale, my life is a bit like yours..... I find myself loving both music and my work, and hence can be seen mixing the two together also... tutt tutt!!! (oh and I'm not exactly a bull dog either)
I really just want to tell those offended few that their idea of a perfect world will always dissapoint them with unrealistic judgements and at the end of the day...... anyone can do what they want! It really is a god given right to have free will. That is a universal law!
Don't worry there are sensual/sexual people in many professional positions and possibly their work peers and others could be shaking their fingesr at them too?? But who really cares ey? Who has the issue here?
If you are good at what you do, you will become known for that, and you will develop a clientele that will support you, as you do them. And Dot, that is what you've done and that you are "making your dreams real" etc etc yadda yadda yadda..... and that's a beautiful thang!
But one last thing ...... if you watch any other species of animals on earth you will see that they NEVER hold back on ANY urge they may have at ANY time..... be it about food, emotions, sex...... etc etc So why do humans persist on making sensuality, a negative thing? Well perhaps it is time that we instead make judging sensuality a negative thing! Infact there you go, lets reverse it all from now on..... sounds like alot more damn fun to me..... and hell I studied my degree for 4 years and I can still say that and be taken seriously.....
Ah, now I need a nice massage ...... Dot!!!!!

I've always felt that if 'they' want to be "one of those", they they should damn well get the medical training and actually BE what they WANNABE!!!! As for legitimate massage, I continue to believe MOST people get a massage because it feels good.......if they have a physical problem that requires medical treatment, then they either got to an M.D., or a P.T. Kommentar: It sucks that a misperceived comment that you give in an interview can be printed--without your OK--and immortalized in the minds of people who go with the first impression and never bother to check with the source (which is "most people"). When giving an interview, it'd prolly be a good thing to let them know how much you welcome their phone calls (after the interview) in case they're not 100% sure of what you meant by something you've said.
In any case, I read the article on CNN.com and I wasn't put off at all by the mistakes they made. They quoted you as saying: "If I gave in to what they wanted, they'd have no respect for me, and never want to see me again...... Men need to yearn, to want something they know they can't have. That way, they'll pay for it, over and over again."
Ahdunno if you really said that or if they took it out of context or put words in your mouth... but to be honest with ya, there's some truth to that statement, and I thought it was pretty clever. And especially for a 15 year old girl to understand that concept, it's impressive. Anyway, what's important about not screwing all of your clients is that you respect yourself. If you *wanted* to screw them all, heck-- I figure you'd go and do it. The only thing guys don't respect is when women "give-in" to sexual pressure. Believe me... if a woman has sex with me because she wants to as much as I do, I lose no respect for her. I might not want to see her again, but hey-- that's another story!
The fact that you went with one of your *star* clients over the years shows that you made a conscious decision, and tried a little experiement. (So much for that!) Just wanted to let you know that I came away from (carefully) reading the article with a positive and professional image of you, and I've never heard of you before today. And, the fact that someone *might* pay $400 for a massage by you & your crew ain't a negative... it shows that you're a hot and wanted commodity.
I take issue with the MTs who talk like you're a fake or disgrace to massage therapy. If anything, I think you're adding a bit of "pizazz" to that industry. Hell, rock stars have done it, why should you? There are those musicians who would have rock-n-roll stripped of all its personality. If you ask me, that's just silly. You go and have fun, and keep doin' whatchya do.
Oh... btw, yes... that pic of the cockroach in NYC was definitely my proud NYC breed. I'm just curious... as the child of 2 total hippies, did you smoosh it, or let it live?

I can't beleive Sting even lets you massage him, as he seems to have some brains in his head and a host of talented, educated Massage Therapists at his disposal. I'm not jealous. As a matter of fact, I work in the industry and I also work with high-end clientele. That's why I feel as though I can personally speak with a little more authority on the subject. My professional decorum and personal/professional ethics are a HUGE part of what I do, so I take personal offense when I see someone denegrating what I do.
I DO care about credentials. Why? Because I have them. And, contrary to popular belief, they are required. I am a nationally certified and LISCENSED massage therapist, I am damn good at what I do, and worked hard as hell to get WHERE I am.
You may think it a frivolity to get a "rub down" but there's a lot more science in what you might consider something you do for relaxation. I have anatomy, kinesiology, reflexology, and neurology classes under my belt. I had over 3,000 (over twice the amount for most U.S. liscensure requirements) of practical time before I lay my hands on an actual client. And I am ALWAYS current on contraindications (look it up).
It really irritates me that you put the word profession in quotes. We massage therapists are HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, working damn hard to dispel ignorance, fear and just plain stupidity about our industry.
I have no qualms whatsoever about the work Dr. Dot does, as I am pretty sure, after all these years, she is quite skilled in what she does. My one wish is that she would market herself in a different way. It gives us a bad rap. Often times the women are seen as glorified hookers and the men (getting the worst part of the stick) as sexual deviants of some sort. Most of the time people don't get a lot of exposure to our profession, so often times marketing like this only solidifies the ignorance of what many think of us.
If I had any advice, it would be to go and visit your local AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) chapter and EDUCATE yourself about what we do, before you make any kind of judgement call about what we do or don't do. Until then, back off, and quit commenting on something which you know nothing about.

I spent some time in China last year on a project and spent most of my free time looking for great massages (the ones on the ground floor, not the ones upstairs) and loved it! Kommentar: I read your HUGE article in the Kansas City Star the other day and was floored! As a real PROFESSIONAL massage therapist I had a hard time reading the article. THe entire thing was about SEX! This career is still trying to be taken seriously and its people like you that are the reasons myself and other colleagues are trying to defend its reputation. You said that your one rule is that you will not have sex with your clients, which is good, but then went on to say that men always want what they cant have, so they keep coming back again and again. It sounds more like your teasing them, as if they aren't coming for the benifits of massage but the challenge?? Even your website, your pics look seductive and sexual. A true massage therapist knows its very unethical to even speak of sex and massage at the same time. Next time you want to speak on the topic of massage keep the subject to just that and the all the theraputical reasons people should recieve them. Promote massage in a positive professional, otherwise, dont speak at all.

Kommentar: Dr. Dot, Some people just don't understand that musicians' (also tattoo artists & professional skydivers alike)bodies go through hell and back due to hard work, lack of rest, and not paying attention to their own bodies. I am a professional massage therapist and appreciate your ability to separate holistic healing with what could easily get caught up with the "glam" and temptations of your clientelle. One thing, I think by now you can call yourself "Massage Therapist" instead of "Masseuse," don't you? Let me work with you when you're in the San Francisco, Bay Area!

I don't care WHO you massage, I want to know your aptitude.
Because from what I've seen and what I've read, you give the ENTIRE profession a bad name, as far as I'm concerned.
We work SO hard in this industry to dispel the ignorance that we are no more than glorified hookers, why would you work so hard to make them think otherwise?
I respect that you have done well for yourself, but maybe you could do a little more educating on the massage therapy profession rather than letting us know about the "best celebrity butt."
